Hakone Kozan Cocktail Competition 2020.
Two years after opening in July 2018, the first cocktail competition kazan2020 was held at barhotel Hakone Kayama's 'the bar' as a new trial for the third year, exclusively for interested parties.
The existing four original cocktails of Kozan - chisuji, rio, hakone and ashigara - have been redesigned.
Concepts and recipes inspired by the name were sought from all barhotel staff.
The winners of each cocktail were selected from a total of approximately 30 entries based on the concept, visuals, taste and completeness of the work.
[chisuji] Winner, Tsubasa Noda.
Creative intent: from kazanstory, inspired by the sweet-smelling Kazan tears. Half rim of salt on the edge of the glass. The subtle sweetness felt with the salt expresses her tears.
Ingredients: cranberry juice, Cointreau, crème de cassis, lemon juice chartreuse jeune, orange bitters, flower tea.
Rio category winner: Yurika Kawano.
Creative intent: a cocktail inspired by the Kazanstory, with a refreshing finish using white peaches and berries, as it is an early summer cocktail. The drink has a lingering aroma that can be enjoyed every time the cocktail is consumed.
Ingredients: rum, peach nectar, homemade lavender syrup, egg whites, lavender seeds.
[Awarded a prize in the hakone category] Daiki Saito.
Creative intent: a cocktail that evokes Japanese autumn with the combination of Japanese botanicals, the aroma of Japanese pepper, the sweetness of mirin (sweet sake) and apples. A unique drink at an inn tucked away deep in the mountains of Hakone.
Ingredients: niccafe gin, apple juice, mirin, tonic water, pepper, autumn leaves, gold leaf.

Creative intent: a homemade spiced, wintery nightcap with plenty of ginger and spice. Enjoy the combined aroma of Irish whiskey and spices.
Ingredients: Irish whiskey, homemade ginger chai syrup, whipped cream, cinnamon sticks, cocoa powder, gold leaf.
These four films will be available at the bar from October.
